This blog entry is a little different, in that telecommunications and networks will not be the main focus. For those of us who have had a prosperous 2013, the upcoming holiday season gives a chance to reflect on our success, and consider how we may be able to give back to society and our community. One such way is by supporting the 34th annual Rotary TV Auction, to be held December 7, 4pm-midnight, December 8, 3-7pm. The show is broadcast live on Rogers Community TV in Southern Ontario throughout all of York Region, on Cable 10 or 63. Outside of York Region, one can bid on-line at www.tvrotary.com.

Available for auction are Maple Leaf hockey tickets, restaurant gift certificates, ski ticket packages, golf foursomes, Raptor basketball tickets, gift baskets, electronics, jewelry, clothing, fragrances, Marlies hockey tickets, spa packages, entertainment tickets, art work and gym passes.

There are also some really unique gift ideas that you cannot buy in malls, such as hockey cards and jerseys autographed by NHL legends such as Darryl Sittler, Johnny Bower, Bobby Hull and Alex Ovechkin.
As all funds raised benefit charities, there is no sales tax on any purchase! The charities participating in this year’s auction include:
* Canadian Spinal Research Organization
* York Region Multiple Sclerosis
* Easter Seals
* Opera York
* The York Centre for Children
* Newmarket Rotary
* Eva’s Initiatives
* Sunshine Foundation
* My House: Rainbow Resources of York Region
* Helping Homeless Pets
* The Rotary Club of Richmond Hill

If you are within the Rogers broadcast area, please tune in. If you are not, please participate on-line at www.tvrotary.com.
