According to an August 25th research report, Optical Network Hardware by Infonetics Research, spending on optical hardware grew 27% sequentially in the Q2 of 2014, reaching US$3.3 billion. However, sales were approximately similar to the year ago period, Q2 of 2013.

Strong sales in Asia Pacific were in contrast to weaker sales in EMEA.

Purchases by internet content providers, such as Google, provided a surge of North American sales to Adva, BTI and Infinera. In North America, Ciena and Infinera showed good optical revenue growth compared to Q2 2013, while Fujitsu and Alcatel-Lucent exhibited a drop.
